Hvide Sande Campings story

  • 1961

On one of the narrowest stretches of the west coast, between the sea and the fjord, lies Hvide Sande Camping – a campsite that has been in the family since 1961.

The campsite was founded by Anders Thomas Jensen, also known as “Anders Dres”. He gave the campsite the name “Beltana Camping” and founded it in 1961. Initially, the campsite primarily attracted visitors who stayed overnight in tents. Before “Anders Dres” opened the campsite, he opened a mink farm two years earlier. “Anders Dres” was fined in connection with the mink farm and therefore decided to take a different approach.

  • 1967

In 1967, “Anders Dres” sent a letter to one of the current owners, Mogens Frydendahl. Mogens, who was in England at the time, was asked to go home and look after the campsite with his younger brother Lars Frydendahl. Here Mogens and Lars Frydendahl took over the management of Beltana Camping. “Anders Dres” gradually withdrew and eventually only came by once a day.

  • 1975

In 1975, the Frydendahl family expanded the supermarket at the harbour, which meant that Mogens and Lars had to stop at the campsite. Therefore, their cousin, Tom, took over the management. Tom, who was Anders Dres’ son, ran the campsite until 1988.

  • 1989

After Tom’s time at the campsite, Jens and Lars Frydendahl’s wives took over the management, Lise and Jonna Frydendahl. This was 1989 and Lars also helped out at the campsite. Lise and Jonna took turns managing the place – one week each. During the period when they were working at the campsite, they lived in the current holiday apartment on the upper floor. Lise and Jonna ran the campsite from 1989 to 1999 and during this time the Frydendahl family bought Beltana Camping from “Anders Dres”.

  • 2002

In 2002, a new site manager, Gert Christensen, was hired. Gert managed the campsite for 20 years until he retired in 2022. Under Gert’s leadership, the campsite underwent several changes. In 2006 the site changed its name to Hvide Sande Camping, which is still valid today. During Gert’s time, the square was gradually upgraded and given its current appearance. Changes included new luxury cabins on site.

  • 2023

At the beginning of 2023, Hvide Sande Camping got a new management couple, Nicola and Matthias. This German couple moved to Hvide Sande from southern Germany to run the campsite.
