About Hvide Sande Camping

Meet Nicola and Matthias

At Hvide Sande Camping you will be greeted by Nicola and Matthias, who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the site. The couple moved in 2023 from southern Germany to Hvide Sande to try their hand at a new life and run the campsite all year round.

Although they do not come from the tourism industry, they have taken on the challenge with great enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility. They are responsible for everything from maintenance and cleaning to welcoming guests and the daily contact at the site.

Nicola and Matthias emphasize an honest and welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. They continue the campsite’s tradition of decency, tranquility, and personal service – in the midst of nature between sea and fjord.

Our vision

We want to be more than just a campsite. We want to be a place where nature, people, and vacations go hand in hand. A place where you can feel the wind, the tranquility – and have a clear conscience.

Every time we plant something new, recycle, or save energy, it is a small contribution to a greater cause: preserving the nature of West Jutland, which makes Hvide Sande Camping something truly special.

Environmental focus

  • With us, nature comes first

We believe that sustainability is not about big words, but about daily actions. Every decision we make – from cleaning products to energy choices – is made with the environment in mind. Our goal is simple: to give our guests a safe and comfortable holiday experience, without it being at the expense of the nature around us.

  • Green energy – all the way

All electricity on the site comes from 100% renewable energy sources. When the wind blows across the dunes, we know that the same gust of wind helps keep the lights on in our cabins and service buildings.

  • Water with care

The nature of the West Coast is rich, but our resources are not infinite. That is why we have installed water savers in all cabins and buildings, so we use exactly the water we need—and not a drop more.

  • Cleaning with respect

When we clean, we use Nordic Swan Ecolabel products that protect both the environment and health. This means clean comfort without unnecessary chemicals – and a place that smells of fresh air, not cleaning agents.

  • Heat, when it makes sense

When the cabins are empty, we automatically lower the heating. It saves energy and CO₂ without compromising the comfort of our guests.

  • Green Key – our green promise

Hvide Sande Camping is certified with Green Key – tourism’s official eco-label. This is your guarantee that we systematically work with environmental improvements and meet international sustainability requirements. But for us it is more than a label – it is a promise that we will always make an effort to become even better.

Our history

  • Our history – Hvide Sande Camping since 1961

Right between sea and fjord, where the wind meets the dunes, lies Hvide Sande Camping – a site with soul, nature and sea air in its blood. Here, the Frydendahl family has welcomed guests since 1961 to genuine West Jutland family camping, where peace and presence still matter most.

  • The beginning of Beltana Camping

The story begins with Anders Thomas Jensen, locally known as “Anders Dres”. In 1961, he founded the site under the name Beltana Camping. Back then, guests came in tents and enjoyed the fresh sea air and the quiet of nature. After a few years as a mink farmer, Anders chose a new path—and instead created a haven for nature lovers and families on the west coast.

  • The Frydendahl family steps in

In 1967, Anders wrote to his nephew, Mogens Frydendahl, who lived in England. He asked him to come home and help with the campsite together with his little brother Lars. The brothers said yes—and this is where the family’s long-standing connection to the place began. Anders slowly withdrew, but faithfully stopped by every day to keep up with operations.

  • New hands and new times

In the 1970s, the family’s supermarket at the harbor grew, and Mogens and Lars had to devote themselves to the shop. Their cousin Tom, son of Anders, took over Beltana Camping and ran it with commitment and joy until 1988.

  • The women take the lead

In 1989, Lise and Jonna Frydendahl joined—Lars and Jens’ wives. They took turns running the campsite week by week while the family bought the site free from Anders. With warmth, structure, and hospitality, they kept their lives in place and shaped the culture that still characterizes the campsite today.

  • A modern campsite takes shape

In 2002, Gert Christensen was hired as site manager. Under his leadership, the campsite was modernised with new facilities and luxury cabins. In 2006, the site got its current name – Hvide Sande Camping. For two decades, Gert developed the site and created the modern, family-friendly campsite that many know today.

  • A new chapter by the sea

In the winter of 2023, a new chapter began. The German couple Nicola and Matthias moved from southern Germany to Hvide Sande to take over operations. With respect for history and a passion for nature and hospitality, they now carry the place forward into the future.

  • A West Jutland story that lives on

Today, Hvide Sande Camping stands as a living piece of West Jutland history – a place where nature, tranquility, and community meet. Her handler camping still about what has always mattered most: freedom, fresh air, and the love of life by the sea.

We love our happy visitors

Spend your holiday at our cosy campsite close to the North Sea.

It is a lovely and quiet place. You can walk up to the beach. There are two playgrounds where the children can play.
There is a small grocer that has good food
e.g. the rolls and good Friday candy.

One should go there for a weekend.

Absolutely fantastic! We were excited. A fantastic location in the middle of the dunes, with the beach right in front of us. The beach is a beautiful, wide stretch of sand where you can even let the dogs run.
Easy arrival and departure without complications…

We will come back and can warmly recommend 🙂
